A Musical Movement

Alright, so here’s the deal. Up until a couple years ago, I had strictly been a music LISTENER. I was not the playing type. And if you had heard me try and play Chopsticks on the piano, trust me, you’d understand.

But see, that’s changed.

In the last two years, I’ve learned how to play the flute (don’t judge) and the guitar. I’ve built my guitar skills up, because, you know, IT’S A GUITAR, AND GUITARS ARE REALLY REALLY COOL. And recently, after a year or so of saving, I bought the Epiphone Casino, which has a history in its own right (John Lennon and Paul McCartney both used it, and John Lennon used his for a pretty long time). So now this is where the story begins. If you can call it a story.
So the one thing I’ve learned about buying guitars is to go check them out first. Looking good on the internet rarely means looking good in real life. And maybe a week ago, I went to a Guitar Center near my house to go play the Casino and a couple other guitars. And while I was there, I found this gem of a book.  Cool?  I know.  Jason  Mraz is actually sort of the illest singer.  But since buying a new guitar would render me broke, I decided to save some money and buy the book off Amazon and shave a couple bucks off in the process.

Alright.  Fastforward a week.  After being delayed by the gigantic snowstorm that swept across the Northeast, it came today, maybe an hour ago.  And it’s great.  It has chords laid out in a straightforward way right above the lyrics, and more importantly, it has “Lucky” and “I’m Yours”, both of which still reside in my Most Played column of iTunes.

So to clarify, I’m not some creepy-ass advertiser for Strum & Sing.  I bought this book of my own accord, and am praising it unconditionally of my own accord.  Alright, now to the REAL part of the post.  Bear with meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Reading this book has opened up a new window of opportunity for me *insert classic Zen wisdom*.  Honestly, though, it’s inspired me to take my musical-ness and push it another step ahead.  Until now, the most I’ve done in the way of actually creating music is Garage Band and a couple raps I put together with my friends.  No more.  This year, I’ve vowed to write 15 songs, armed with Mixcraft 4, my Casino, and my mind.  I know I can write raps, and how much harder can it be to write songs?  Hopefully not much more.  So, there it is.  15songsayear2011.  Because I broke my postaday2011 pledge two weeks into the New Year.

And, as always, please help me spread this blog along 😀

Music

Hey guys,

Sorry I’ve been gone: I’ve been pretty busy the last few days. Right now, I’m gonna take a deep look at my music taste. Call it introspection. Call it a shameless push for views. I like to call it a spacefiller.

So, like I said, I love music. I don’t go anywhere without headphones. Music is my life. I am constantly surrounded. Really.

And my taste is pretty strange and varied, too. My most played artists in iTunes are Jay-Z, Mike Posner, Wiz Khalifa, KiD CuDi, B.o.B, Bruno Mars, and Jay Sean. My last played artists are Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Micah-B, J. Reyez, Dumfoundead, Wiz Khalifa, Janelle Monae, and Big Boi. Rap? Got it. R&B? I gotchu. Country? I’m for that life. Pop? Don’t get me started. Rock? Nickelback is pretty damn ill. I mean, I even listen to Korean music and Youtubers.
My favorite albums, in no particular order, with my rationale:
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy – Kanye West
Haunting instrumentals, incredible features, and impressive lyrical verses make this one of my favorite albums ever.
The Adventures of Bobby Ray – B.o.B
Genre bending is the only way to go with this, hence his later mixtape No Genre. He goes from introspective to crowd catering to haunting to street rap. Much respect.
Speak Now – Taylor Swift
Alright, alright. But she’s good. There’s no denying it. There’s a reason.
My World 2.0 – Justin Bieber
JUST KIDDING
Viva La Vida – Coldplay
They are just amazing. Clearly Viva la Vida and Violet Hill stand out, but every single one is nice. This alternative album led me to-
The Fray – The Fray
Rock/Alternative: I love this. Very impressive, that’s all I can say.

So I guess that’s about it! I’ll be back tomorrow, I hope 😉

Hey

Hey, my name is Sun-Ui.  Welcome to Miscellaneous United.

Wait.  No.  One more time.

Yo, what’s poppin’ fam?  This is my dope blog, ya dig?

Nope.

Hey guys, I’m Sun-Ui.  Thanks for dropping by Miscellaneous United.

Betterrrrrr.

I made this blog mostly because I was bored, honestly.  Instead of texting my friends when I need to vent, I have Miscellaneous United, and now I can show the world.  Pretty ill.

I’m a freshman in high school now, part of Mock Trial and the school newspaper.  Pretty good grades, so don’t worry about unreadable grammar.

I love music, video games, and sports.  I listen to just about all kinds of music besides hard rock and electronic.  Literally.  Bruno Mars? Got it.  Wiz Khalifa? Got it.  Coldplay? Got it.  Just about everything.  As for sports?  I’m an avid follower of the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, Bruins, FC Barcelona, and Chelsea.  And video games?  Black Ops.  Madden.  MLB The Show.  NBA 2K11.  FIFA.  Little Big Planet.

So here you are.  You can expect random rants on the news, sports, music, and any random thing that pops into my head, injected with a healthy dose of humor (at least, I hope).  Thanks for reading!

By the way, I won’t hold any grudges if you forward this blog around.  🙂
